Laptop Repair
Laptops are particularly prone to a variety of issues: - Broken LCD panels from being dropped or stepped on
- Water/liquid damage
- Broken keys on the keyboard
- Power problems (won't power on or won't hold a charge)
- Broken power jack
- Dead CD/DVD drives
- Out of disk space
- Physical damage, such as broken display hinges or cracked panels
Give us a try before you throw it away or pay a computer repair chain to replace parts until it works. We take a sensible approach to repairs and look for the most economical solution. And if it makes little sense to repair an older system it costs you nothing...and we can copy your data to a new laptop for a reasonable fee. Computer repair chains obtain replacement parts from the laptop manufacturer at premium prices. For example, an HP Pavillion DV6700 replacement motherboard from HP costs in excess of $400. We recommend the use of a refurbished or used motherboard for less than half the cost. A replacement DVD drive for a laptop can cost as much as $300. A refurbished or used unit can cost as little as $25. A replacement LCD panel from the manufacturer can cost as much as $300. We obtain brand-new replacement panels from our supplier for as little as $90. Recent Repair Jobs We recently completed the following repairs: - HP Pavillion LCD Replacement: $163.78 parts and labor

I recently had to restore a notebook computer back to the original image as shipped from the factory. There are two ways to go about this: manually or using the Dell System Restore partition. Manual reload can take hours/days. The DSR recovery is a breeze...unless the DSR partition has become unbootable. The normal way to start DSR is to hit CTRL+F11 as soon as you see the F2/F12 prompt when the notebook boots. If it does not recognize CTRL+F11 your Dell-provided master boot record has been changed. When this happens there is a tool called DSRFix that can fix this problem for you. If it works then you're off to the races. If it doesn't work, as in my case (complained the DSR partition was not valid FAT32) you' have a lot of work to do, but it can be recovered. |

I tend to save everything. And as a result, I tend to fill up disk drives. Disk drives are like garages: it's where stuff tends to settle. And like a garage, they need to be cleaned out once in a while. But unlike a garage you can easily and inexpensively expand your storage. There are 4 ways to increase your available disk space: eliminate unnecessary programs, remove old or unneeded files, add a second disk drive, or upgrade to a larger disk drive. |

SPYWARE ALERT: Deus Cleaner |
|
|
|
|
We're seeing some users infected by a piece of spyware purporting to be a cleanup utility called Deus Cleaner. Deus Cleaner displays dire (and exaggerated) warnings about security problems on the infected computer in an attempt to get the user to purchase the full version. DO NOT download, install, or especially purchase Deus Cleaner. Remove it IMMEDIATELY if it has managed to find its way onto your computer. Removal requires manually deleting several registry entries and files and unregistering DLLs. If you are not comfortable with the inner workings of Windows please contact us. We can remove it while doing a complete checkup of your computer. |
